Historic Williamsport was named for William Harrison, a ferry operator who lived in a log house at the end of main street. It’s the county seat of Warren County, and is home to a number of buildings registered in the National Register of Historic Places, including the Presbyterian Church, and the Kent and Hitchens Houses.
Williamsport also boasts the Williamsport Falls, a 90-foot waterfall that runs near the center of downtown. It’s Indiana’s tallest waterfall. The town of Williamsport is split into two sections; Old Town is near the Wabash River, and New Town is uphill, near the railroad.
Covington is the county seat of Fountain County, though the locals will tell you that it is almost as well known for the famous Beef House Restaurant and Dinner Theater, a favorite destination for those who have just finished touring Covered Bridge Country, the Ernie Pyle State Historic site and Turkey Run State Park.
Covington is also home to the Circle Trail Bridge, built in 1904 and recently restored as a destination for bicyclists, walkers, joggers and strollers. It’s the centerpiece of a recently complete six-mile paved trail system.
